Supporting the House of Whistleblowers: expanding the ecosystem around secure reporting

On World Whistleblower Day, Transparency International Italy officially launched the House of Whistleblowers, a new initiative designed to provide guidance, information, and support to individuals who are considering reporting wrongdoing.

At GlobaLeaks, we are proud to support this project by contributing our technology and expertise, continuing a long-standing collaboration with Transparency International Italy that has already produced impactful initiatives such as ALAC (Anti-Corruption Alert) and WhistleblowingIT.

For us, supporting the House of Whistleblowers is a natural step forward.

Beyond technology: building an ecosystem

Over the years, we have learned that effective whistleblowing requires much more than secure reporting software.

Technology is a critical component, but successful whistleblowing systems also depend on awareness, trust, legal guidance, civil society support, and communities capable of helping individuals make informed decisions before they report.

Many potential whistleblowers face uncertainty. They may not know whether their concern falls within whistleblowing regulations, which reporting channel is most appropriate, what protections are available, or what consequences they might face.

The House of Whistleblowers addresses this gap by creating a network of organizations and experts that can help individuals understand their options before submitting a report. This not only benefits whistleblowers themselves but can also improve the quality and effectiveness of reports received by organizations.

A new opportunity for the GlobaLeaks community

The initiative also represents an important opportunity for the wider GlobaLeaks community.

Over the last decade, thousands of organizations worldwide have adopted GlobaLeaks to establish secure reporting channels. As the community grows, we increasingly see the need to connect technology with broader support networks that include civil society organizations, advocacy groups, journalists, legal experts, and anti-corruption practitioners.

The House of Whistleblowers creates exactly this kind of bridge.

By bringing together different actors around a shared commitment to transparency and accountability, the initiative enriches the ecosystem in which GlobaLeaks operates, creating new opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and community growth.

We believe that stronger networks ultimately lead to stronger whistleblowing systems.

Part of the Digital Whistleblowing Fund vision

Our support for the House of Whistleblowers falls within the broader goals of the Digital Whistleblowing Fund.

Through the Fund, we aim to reinvest resources generated by our activities into projects that strengthen the whistleblowing ecosystem beyond software development alone. This includes supporting civil society organizations and media outlets promoting innovative projects that help protect individuals who speak up in the public interest.

The House of Whistleblowers embodies many of these objectives. It combines technology, expertise, and social support into a single framework designed to empower people who may otherwise remain silent.

For GlobaLeaks, supporting initiatives like this is not simply about expanding the use of a platform. It is about contributing to a broader movement that seeks to make whistleblowing safer, more accessible, and more effective for everyone.
